This type of earring tends to be delicate and exquisite, extending just below the piercing. To keep the lovely appearance of drop earrings, they would use a small clutch fastener or butterfly back, similar to a stud.
DANGLE EARRINGS
This term is widely applied to earrings that extend from a simple wire “hook”, and lie counterbalanced just below your ear lobe. They are innovative and even quirky earrings in a wide range of materials, colors and patterns. Though the idea is that the wire holds the earring in place, add a small clutch if your dangle earrings are particularly precious or lightweight.
Some dangle earrings include a clasp on the hook wire, limiting the chance of them falling off.

For colorful and highly decorative earrings, modern-day designers clearly believe “anything goes”. Not only in terms of “glitz”, color and choice of materials either.
