Crown

In gem terms, the crown refers to the portion of  a gemstone above its girdle (its widest part). The crown acts as a lens, focusing the light, which is then reflected back by the pavilion (the portion  of the gem below the girdle). The crown on a  round brilliant cut gem has 32 facets, while the  crown  on an Emerald cut typically has 24.
