Colourful Life Foundation Get to Work in Tanzania

| 2 min read

Our quest to build four schools gathers pace. Back in January, Steve led the Gemporia team on a mammoth cycling event in aid of the Colourful Life Foundation. After cycling 24/7 on a static bike for the entire month, the team raised a staggering £85,000 - enough money to build four schools in the Arusha area of Tanzania.

Three months after the challenge ended, Steve fills us in on how the project has been developing….

In March I travelled to Tanzania to work with our teams on the ground to scope developments. I’m pleased to say we found two existing schools for the first phase of funding which will happen between now and September.

Lemguru Primary in Mateves; and Arusha District and Nan Primary, in the Loliondo District are our first two chosen schools. Both schools are in a terrible state of repair and almost unrecognizable as schools, there is almost no infrastructure – no floors, windows or doors. 700 students share four rooms with only three very basic toilets for everyone. No place for an effective education.

After establishing links with local tradesmen, I’m pleased to say a complete refurbishment including new washrooms and toilets has started and the building work is well under way.

Whilst work on these schools gathers pace, we haven’t forgotten our original goal to provide four schools and we’re currently finalising details on the final two locations.

In the meantime, I’ll continue to keep you updated as we make progress.
