Not only are genuine gemstones beautiful, but they are also believed to have healing power.
Since antiquity, man has believed in the healing abilities of certain gemstones. The study of the use of minerals in medicine is known as lithotherapy, and although there is no scientific proof behind any of the suggested remedies, there are still hundreds of thousands of people who believe in the mystical powers of crystal healing.
My own personal assistant, Barry Wiggins, who had struggled with severe back pains for many years, was once recommended to carry a piece of Snowflake Obsidian and Haematite in his pocket. I must point out that this was long before I met him and therefore is totally independent of any influence I may have had on him - in fact I only found out about his experience a couple of years ago when the topic of crystal healing was being discussed for my first book.
Barry has been carrying the gems in his pocket for many years and believes so much in their powers that he even puts them in his shorts when he goes swimming! For years, Barry has been free from back pain. Of course, it could be coincidence or it could be that there are powers that we just don’t understand. One further explanation could be that Barry believes in their powers so much that it acts as a placebo.
Eminent writers throughout history, including Aristotle (384 -322BC), Pliny the Elder (23AD – 79AD) and Abbess Hildegard von Bingen (1098 – 1179AD) have documented many beliefs associated with different gemstones. Many believe that gems are linked to planets, suns and moons. Others believe that as most gemstones have taken millions of years to create, they have somehow captured powers from Mother Nature along their journey. Certain healing gems should be regularly exposed to the sun in order to recharge their powers, whereas other gems should be placed on the terrace or window sill two nights before the full moon. Some gems are said to have their powers enhanced if the gem is buried in soil overnight.
Though there is no scientific evidence that links gemstones to medical benefits, we have decided to include the following chart that we have compiled from studying the works of many crystal healers, as we believe that as long as they are not used to replace medicine and are only used in conjunction with proven remedies, then no harm can be done. After all, the power of positive thinking is known to be better for our health than having a negative outlook.
