One of the most uniquely beautiful gems, Emeralds are one of the most charismatic of stones. Most gemstones are valued for their clarity, but Emeralds are so rarely blemish-free that the inclusions within the gem are appreciated by connoisseurs as part of the beauty of the gem. With each gem displaying individual characteristics known as its ‘jardin’, each and every Emerald has its own unique personality. These works of art are created by Mother Nature herself, to be treasured as her fingerprints running through every stone.

Emeralds are a member of the Beryl family of gemstones, making them a close relative of Aquamarine. Emeralds are colored green by impurities in the gem’s crystal structure – usually a mixture of chromium and vanadium and sometimes iron. Their color ranges from pure green to yellowish or blueish green.

Emeralds have been adored since ancient times. The Egyptians, Ancient Greeks, Mayans and Incans all appreciated the beauty of this gem. Cleopatra’s Emerald mines were believed to be merely a famous legend, until they were discovered in 1817.

Emerald is the birthstone for May and the anniversary gemstone for the 20th, 35th and 55th year of marriage.
