How to Choose an Engagement Ring Part Five - Final Thoughts

| 2 min read

Once you have decided on an engagement ring style, setting, and gemstone, here are some final points to consider:

Metal

It is worth having a think about what to go for in terms of metal as early as you can. Usually people choose from 18K, 14K or 10K Yellow or White Gold, Platinum or Sterling Silver.

wedding bands

Most people prefer to match their engagement ring with their wedding band. Have a little look at our guide to choosing a wedding band here.

Ring Size

Most of you probably won’t know the right ring size. You might need to use a bit of stealth to find out. If you don’t know what size ring you will need, have a look at our ring sizing guide.

Budget

Set a reasonable budget and stick to it. If your ideal engagement ring is too expensive, consider an alternative gemstone – Diamonds are one of the most expensive gemstones on the planet, so consider a colored gemstone, or if you like the look of a Diamond, but still want a genuine gemstone, a great alternative stone is Zircon.

If you have your heart set on a Diamond, but the size you want is out of your price range, it is worth considering dropping the grade of the Diamond. This sounds counterintuitive but can be a great way to save money – see our blog Clarity Versus Carats for more details.

Certificate

Here at Gemporia, all of our jewelry comes with a Certificate of Authenticity so you know what you are getting. Wherever you buy your ring, ensure you have a certificate stating what the gemstones are, what the metal is, the carat weight, and whether or not it has been treated.

Insurance

As soon as you have received your ring, be sure to add it to your insurance policy.
