TANZANITE

Tanzanite

As the birthstone for December and one of the rarer stones on our planet, Tanzanite is one of our personal favorites.

Tanzanite is as beautiful as it is unique. Found only in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, and only discovered in 1967, Tanzanite has earned a huge amount of popularity in a short amount of time. This violet-blue phenomenon comes in a variety of stunning hues, and has a clarity embraced by gemstone lovers all over the world.

PEARL

Pearl

As well as being one of our most popular gemstones, Pearls are some of the most unique gemstones in the world. Despite being commonly found, each Pearl is completely different from the last, making them possibly the most distinctive stone on the planet. Their individuality is what makes them special, and we are so lucky to have a wide variety of Pearl jewelry for you.

Some of our favorite Pearl pieces come from the man who knows the most: Charlie Barron. A sixth generation Pearl trader and an expert in the ocean-born stone, we are incredibly lucky to have Charlie as one of our special guests. Whether they’re used in a classic or contemporary design, from Japan or Tahiti, this timeless gemstone is constantly on trend.

Pearls have a quality like no other stone, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring so many of them to you.

ZIRCON

Zircon

As the oldest mineral on Earth, the first Zircon was found 4.4 billion years ago. It was, and continues to be, one of the most sought-after gemstones for fine jewelry.

Our favorite Zircon variety to bring you Is the Zircon we have sourced from Ratanakiri in Cambodia. This historic location is without any major roads, making it virtually inaccessible to the outside world; however, Ratanakiri Zircon is exceptionally clear, and the region produces some of the finest that the world has to offer.

AMETHYST

Amethyst

As the birthstone for February with iconic pink and purple hues, Amethysts are a favorite among both gemstone collectors and crystal enthusiasts. Amethysts are one of our favorite gemstones to bring to you, and the colors the stone produces are nothing if not phenomenal.

Some Amethysts can be slightly pleochroic, meaning that shades of different colors such as blues and reds can be seen from different angles when light hits the gem. This color comes from the stone’s iron impurities; the amount of iron within each stone determines how deep the color is – therefore, without it, Amethysts would be colorless.

Amethysts are undoubtedly one of our favorites, and it’s no surprise that they’re also one of yours.

AQUAMARINE

Aquamarine

The birthstone for March, Aquamarine is a royal favorite as well as one of ours. With its stunning blue hue, this ocean-colored stone is perfect as an everyday or a statement piece.

Aquamarine is one of the Royal Family’s most treasured stones, and was particularly favored by Queen Elizabeth II. The gem had been a part of her jewelry collection since her 18th birthday in 1944, when she was gifted a pair of Aquamarine brooches from King George VI and the Queen Mother.

Aquamarine held a special place in the Queen’s heart – and in ours, too.

QUARTZ

Quartz

With its magnificent array of cuts and colors, Quartz really does deserve a place on our top gemstones list. Quartz is split into two classifications, known as Macrocrystalline Quartz and Cryptocrystalline Quartz.

Macrocrystalline is most often known as simply ‘Quartz’, and contains the more transparent and translucent stones which tend to form as large crystals, big enough to be seen with the naked eye. These stones include:

  • Amethyst
  • Citrine
  • Ametrine
  • Prasiolite
  • Smokey Quartz
  • Rose Quartz
  • Tiger’s Eye
  • Rutilated Quartz

On the other hand, the Cryptocrystalline classification of Quartz can also be known as Chalcedony. It includes both translucent and opaque stones, but they often form with tiny crystals that sometimes aren't even seen under magnification. Some examples include:

  • Chalcedony
  • Agate
  • Carnelian
  • Chrysoprase
  • Onyx
  • Jasper
  • Bloodstone
  • Flint

Quartz is one of the most popular gemstones on our list, and is adored by gemstone lovers all year round.

AMBER

Amber

Whether it’s Baltic, Burmese or otherwise, Amber is one of the most unique stones to grace our planet. Different in its ability to preserve articles that became trapped millions of years ago, Amber is one of the world’s very own natural time capsules. These trapped objects, whether they be insects, leaves or more, can add incredible value to an Amber gemstone or jewelry piece.

We’re so lucky at Gemporia to be able to have Amber expert Mariusz Gielo as one of our special guests. Based in Gdansk, Poland, Mariusz is a true Baltic Amber connoisseur, and has the ability to source and create the most exquisite Amber jewelry for us to bring to you.

LABRADORITE

Labradorite

First identified in Labrador, Canada, Labradorite is found mostly in North America and Nordic countries such as Norway and Finland.

Labradorite is unique in the sense that it can display an iridescent optical effect known as labradorescence. It has been defined as the reflection of the light from submicroscopical planes orientated in one direction.

Labradorite has a shine like very few other gemstones, which is why it is one of our ultimate favorites.

OPAL

Opal

Last, but by no means least, we have Opal. Opals are clean, shiny and can flash every single color on the spectrum – they truly are a work of art. However, this also makes them one of the more delicate stones on the gemstone scale, so they mustn't be exposed to any harmful chemicals.

Opal is one of the most popular and sought-after stones that we’ve ever sourced, and it’s easy to see why.

SHOP OPAL

Although most popular this summer, these gemstones can be worn all the year long. Looking at their beauty and elegance, it’s not hard to see why these stones are favoured so much.

However, these aren’t the only gemstones we have to offer! If none of these stones take your fancy, we have so many more available for you to shop - sourced, set and sent to your door solely by Gemporia.
