Tapered Cut

Also known  as  “Tapered  Baguettes”,  these  cuts work extremely well on the shoulders of  rings, where their shape naturally draws the eye  towards the centre gemstone.

A tapered cut gem is oblong or baguette in shape  and when viewed from the top, its two shortest  sides are of different lengths. There are no set  ratios  for  how  much  the  gem  should  taper,  however it is normal to find the shorter of the  two lengths to be approximately 40 to 60% of the  other. Tapered cuts are traditionally step cut with  facets running parallel to the girdle.
