In Conversation with David Troth
There's no getting around it, Covid-19 has changed the jewellery and gemstone industry. Gemology spoke to Gemporia's gem expert David Troth about how he has been able to continue sourcing gemstones during this tremendously challenging time for the planet. He also reveals how he's been able to record his usually private conversations with our biggest guests and contacts and share them with Gemporia viewers.
The Layered Look
When it comes to stylish expression, we can’t get enough of layering necklaces and bracelets here at Gemporia Towers. You can create so many different looks, from bohemian to contemporary, and elegant to casual, and all you need is a collection of pendants, chains, necklaces, bracelets and bangles. We explore this fashionable look further in the new issue, and you can even start building your collection of layering jewellery from this page.
Peridot: The Golden Standard
Our continuing Gemstone Histories series turns its attention to the golden green jewel Peridot. Peridot has a fascinating history stretching back over 4,000 years. It is a jewel that has been found in meteorites, on the Moon and even on Mars. There’s much to discover with ‘the gem of the sun’, including how it came to be known by its current name. All is revealed in your new issue.
FAB: Fashion and Beauty
Hattie Greenwood’s Destello fashion range and Kati Elliott’s Visage beauty range both continue to rapidly expand thanks to your incredible support for both of our new brands, which will soon be turning one year old! Here, we reveal just a few of the stunning new items you can expect to see on-air including Hattie’s latest jumpers and bags, and Kati’s new eyeshadow palettes and Daystay concealer. Nature's Rainbow Jewels
Rather than our annual look at fashion and trends for the autumn season, this issue we’re instead looking at gorgeous gems in a whole spectrum of hues. Like many of you, we’ve been inspired by the national outpouring of support for our fabulous NHS workers. The central image of the rainbow has captured the spirit of our collective feelings over the past few months. From red to indigo, nature has a colour for everyone during these difficult times, and we’ve picked our favourites inside.
Tales from Lockdown
We also spoke to some of our Gemporia team and friends of the business about how they’ve coped with lockdown and what they’ve been up to, be it at home, work, or in carrying on as best as possible in such uncertain times. As you’ll read inside, lots of happy moments and lifelong memories have been created in these times, a testament to the human spirit that has carried us this far, and will continue to do so.
JewelleryMaker: Autumn Edition
In the second edition of our new JewelleryMaker section, we’ve spoken to some of our fantastic JM team members, from both in front of and behind the cameras, who each tell us a little about what they do. There’s also inspiration for the autumn with some fabulous mini-makes for you to try, and we’ve had a good natter with guest designer Claire Macdonald about her creative process, how she got into jewellery making and what to expect from her soon.
Gemstone Family Tree: Tourmaline
Continuing our rainbow theme, we’ve also explored some of the science behind Tourmaline, and why it’s available in such an incredible array of hues - more than any other gemstone. From the history of the name to the different branches of the Tourmaline tree and where the gem is most often mined, we’ve covered it all inside this edition.
You'll receive a free copy of the magazine with the first order you place this quarter (August, September and October 2020), but if you'd like additional copies of this issue, just click the button below to order more.
