Legend has it that the first discovery of Siberian Emeralds was made by a Russian peasant in the 1800s, by the Tokovaya River in Siberia’s Ural Mountains. Its story bears many similarities to that of the discovery of Alexandrite.
Siberian Emerald is now mined in very rugged terrain where less than half a percent of the rough crystals mined are suitable for faceting.
